Women Lead PAC Welcomes Women of the 114th Congress
Date: Jan. 6, 2015
Indiana, PA – Women Lead PAC Founder Christine Toretti today welcomed the 104 female members of the 114th Congress.
“I’m passionate about the GOP and its principles, but I’m also passionate about electing more women to local, state and national office,” said Toretti. “I’m encouraged that the 114th Congress will include the largest group of women in the history of this great nation.”
The U.S. House will have 84 female members while the U.S. Senate will have 20.
“I’m especially excited to welcome Arizona’s Rep. Martha McSally and Iowa’s Sen. Joni Ernst whom Women Lead PAC supported during their elections,” said Toretti. “These women fought bravely on behalf of our country and their courage and experience will be incredible assets to Republican party leaders on Capitol Hill and to the 114th Congress as a whole.”
Rep. McSally and Sen. Ernst join five other female freshman Republicans: Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (WV), who joins the upper chamber after serving in the House; Rep. Barbara Comstock (VA-10), a small businesswoman, mother and long-time public servant; Rep. Mia Love (UT-4), the first black Republican woman in Congress; Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21), the youngest woman of either party to be elected to Congress; and Rep. Mimi Walters (CA-41), who served for ten years in the California state assembly.
“I’m inspired by the Republican women of the 114th Congress,” said Toretti. “Their qualifications and personal experiences reflect the diversity of our party and our country and each brings with her a deep knowledge about how to run a business, support a family or serve their country, state or city. These women are fiercely committed to the principles that will strengthen our economy, rebuild a strong national defense, secure our energy future and improve the livelihoods of all American families.”
